Pickup Flow v2

Redesigned Delivery and Pick Up experience: single Add to Cart, cart-based fulfillment choice, and system-calculated pickup readiness instead of a collection calendar.

Written by Pedro Pinto

Pickup Flow v2 redesigns how customers choose shipping/delivery vs collection (pick up) on the storefront. It replaces the dual Delivery / Collection add-to-cart buttons with a single Add to cart path, moves fulfillment choice into the cart, and removes the collection date calendar in checkout — pickup readiness is calculated from inventory lead-time rules instead.

This flow builds on existing Click & Collect / branch collection setup. For the classic slot-calendar experience, see Click & Collect / Forward Delivery. For how pickup relates to Will Call, see Pickup as Click & Collect or Will Call.

Important behaviour (summary)

  • Product list and product detail pages show availability for both channels, but use a single Add to cart button (no separate Delivery / Collection buttons).

  • Customers change fulfillment in the cart — per line and/or with a bulk Swap all items to: control (Delivery / Pick up).

  • Checkout no longer shows a collection date calendar or “Select a time” slot picker. Ready-by dates come from inventory Lead Time rules and appear as read-only pickup splits.

  • Product Shipment Method still restricts channels: Delivery only / Collection only products disable the ineligible option.

  • UI wording can vary by surface: product pages often show Shipping / Collection; the cart uses Delivery / Pick up.

(These rules are the authoritative behaviour for the admin setup and storefront examples below.)

Before you begin

  • Ask EvolutionX staff to enable the pickup-flow-v2 pre-release on the store (and typically keep branch-finder-collection enabled for collection branches). Live inventory v2 should also be available for accurate availability lines.

  • Configure Click & Collect basics for at least one branch (collection enabled, locations, delays). See Click & Collect / Forward Delivery and Branch Finder setup.

  • Decide the branch Default Type (Delivery or Collection) — this preselects the product-page fulfillment card.

  • Decide inventory Lead Time behaviour per rule (From order time, Specific date, or Scheduled availability) so pickup “ready by” dates are meaningful.

  • Review product-level Shipment Method overrides (Inherit / Delivery only / Collection only) under Storefront Overlay — same rules as classic Click & Collect.

Enable Pickup Flow v2 (admin)

  1. Ask EvolutionX staff to turn on the pickup-flow-v2 pre-release for your store.

  2. Confirm collection is enabled for the branches customers will use:

    • Go to: Settings → General → Branches → [Branch].

    • In Collection and Forward Delivery, set Is Collection available for this Branch? to ON.

  3. Set Default Type to Delivery or Collection (visible when Pickup Flow v2 is enabled). This controls which fulfillment card is preselected on the product page.

  4. Keep existing collection delay / slot settings as needed for your operation. Note: with Pickup Flow v2, shoppers do not pick a calendar slot in checkout; lead-time rules drive the ready-by date shown on splits.

Inventory settings for Pickup Flow v2 (admin)

  1. Go to: Products → Inventory → Settings.

  2. Under Show Stock Value, select lead time, stock message, location and count when you want the Pickup Flow v2 stock display mode.

  3. Save Changes.

Inventory rules — Pick Up Available From & Lead Time (admin)

  1. Go to: Products → Inventory → New Rule (or Edit an existing rule).

  2. Set Pick Up Available From (time of day pickup availability starts for the rule).

  3. Set Lead Time to one of:

    • From order time — ready-by is today plus the configured hours or days.

    • Specific date — ready-by is the fixed date you enter.

    • Scheduled availability — ready-by is the next matching Delivery Day + lead time / cut-off schedule.

  4. Complete the rest of the rule (locations, messages, stock display) and Save.

Storefront (customer) experience

Product list (PLP)

  • Each product tile shows three live availability lines, for example:

    • In store today: count (or Out of stock / not available / restriction label)

    • Pick up by {date}: count

    • Shipping: count

  • A single Add to cart button — the dual Shipping / Collection buttons from the legacy flow are not shown.

  • Branch pin / current branch name remains available for branch switching.

Product detail (PDP)

  • Two fulfillment cards:

    • Shipping — shows how many are available for shipping.

    • Collection — shows In store today and Pick up by {date} counts.

  • One card is preselected from the branch Default Type. The selected card uses a highlighted (blue) border.

  • Quantity stepper + single blue Add to cart below the cards. There is no slot / time picker on the product page.

  • If the selected channel is out of stock and stock enforcement is on, Add to cart stays disabled.

Cart

  • Top bar: Swap all items to: with Delivery (e.g. All items available) and Pick up (e.g. Available for X of Y items).

  • Per line: inline Delivery / Pick up cards so shoppers can change fulfillment line by line (when cart delivery-method change is allowed).

  • Bulk swap applies to eligible lines only; restricted lines (e.g. delivery-only products) leave Pick up disabled/greyed.

  • No slot / time picker in the cart.

Checkout (collection step)

  • Heading follows the usual collection step: Collection from {branch name}, {city}.

  • If multiple pickup splits exist, shoppers see: Some items will be ready on different dates and may require separate pick ups.

  • Each split shows a ready-by label (from inventory lead time) and the items in that split.

  • There is no calendar and no “Select a time” section. Continue advances using the system splits.

Order confirmation

  • Thank You can show separate cards per order split (Delivery / Collection / Contract), including ready-by labels where applicable.

Use cases (exact admin configuration and expected result)

  1. Both Shipping and Collection/Pickup in Stock

    • Scenario: A SKU has available stock for both shipping and collection/pickup at the selected branch.

    • Setup: Branch Collection is enabled (Admin > Store Settings > Branch), and the inventory rule allows both Shipping and Collection/Pickup.

    • Expected Result: The PLP displays all three stock counts. On the PDP, both Delivery and Collection/Pickup cards are enabled. In the cart, users can switch the item between Delivery and Pickup. The Add to Cart button is enabled.

  2. Single Delivery Method per Cart (Shipping as Default)

    • Scenario: The store does not allow carts with mixed delivery methods, and Shipping is configured as the default delivery method.

    • Setup: In Admin > Store Settings > Branch > Collection and Forward Delivery, set Default Type to Shipping. Then, in Admin > Store Settings > Store Preferences > Orders, set Allow Cart Item Delivery Method Change to Off.

    • Expected Result: The PDP defaults to Shipping, and users cannot create a cart with a mix of Delivery and Pickup items. All items in the cart must use the same delivery method. Users can switch the delivery method for the entire cart using Swap all items to: Delivery or Swap all items to: Pickup, but individual item delivery methods cannot be changed independently.

  3. Pick up later (not in store today)

    • Scenario: Nothing available for “In store today”, but stock is available for a later pickup day and for shipping.

    • Setup: Lead Time produces a future Pick up by date; live inventory returns 0 for today and a positive pick-up-by count.

    • Result: PLP/PDP show Out of stock (or 0) for in-store today, with counts on Pick up by / Shipping; shopper can still add to cart.

  4. Delivery only (product shipment restriction)

    • Scenario: Item that cannot be collected.

    • Setup: Product → Storefront Overlay → Other fields → Shipment Method = Delivery only.

    • Result: Pick up card is disabled in the cart; Delivery remains selectable with its stock count.

  5. Collection only (product shipment restriction)

    • Scenario: Item that must be collected (cannot ship).

    • Setup: Shipment Method = Collection only.

    • Result: Delivery option disabled; Collection / Pick up remains the only eligible channel (subject to stock).

  6. Mixed cart — swap some lines to Pick up

    • Scenario: Basket has several eligible lines; shopper wants most items for collection.

    • Setup: Cart delivery-method change allowed; Pickup Flow v2 ON.

    • Result: Use Swap all items to: Pick up or flip individual line cards. Checkout collection step may show multiple ready-by splits if items become ready on different dates.

  7. Out of stock on both channels

    • Scenario: No shipping or pickup stock at the current branch.

    • Setup: Live inventory returns OOS for all three lines.

    • Result: Availability shows Out of stock; Add to cart is disabled when stock enforcement hides/disables ATC for no stock.

Pickup Flow v2 at the moment doesn't support:

  • Shopper-selected collection calendar / time slots when the v2 collection step is active — ready-by dates are system-calculated from inventory lead time.

  • Changing fulfillment on the product list via separate Delivery / Collection buttons — use the product-page cards (PDP) or the cart.

  • Conditional rules such as “if item A is Delivery then item B must be Pick up” — each line is independent aside from shipping-type restrictions and stock eligibility.

  • Replacing classic Click & Collect setup — branches still need collection enabled, locations, and related Click & Collect configuration.
