Google merchant centre migrate from Content API to Merchant API

Step by step guide to move from Google Content API to Merchant API

Written by Andy Flint

Google is replacing the system that ecommerce platforms use to send product information to Google Shopping. The old system (the Content API) switches off on 18th August 2026, and everything moves to a new one called the Merchant API.

It's important that you update your accounts to use this new method or product listings could stop showing on Google.

This guide is for moving from Content API to Merchant API only.

Step 1: Enable the Merchant API in Google Cloud

  1. Sign in to the Google Cloud Console.

  2. Using the project selector at the top of the page, choose the same project used for your existing service account JSON. (You can find the project name in the project_id field inside your JSON file.)

3. Open the Merchant API library page and click Enable.

💡 You don't need to make any changes to the Content API during this step, leave it as it is.

Step 2: Confirm your Admin email

  1. In Merchant Center, open People and access.

  2. Check that the Google email you use to sign in to Merchant Center is listed with the Admin role.

3. Make a note of this email, you'll enter it as the Developer email in EvolutionX in the next step.

⚠️ Important: Do not use the service account's client_email here. The Developer email must be your own Admin Google email.

Step 3: Turn on Merchant API in EvolutionX

  1. In your EvolutionX admin, go to App Store → GoogleMerchant.

  2. Leave your Merchant ID and Api Key unchanged (unless Google has issued you a new key).

  3. Switch Use Merchant API to On.

  4. In the Developer email field, enter your Admin Google email from Step 2.

  5. Click Save.

Step 4: Generate and push your feed

  1. Go to Products → Feeds and open your Google Merchant feed.

  2. Click Generate and Push feed.

  3. Wait for the process to finish, don't click the button again for a few minutes.

  4. In Merchant Center, open Data sources and confirm a source named similar to evox-googlefeed appears and shows a recent update.
