A sitemap is a file used to tell search engines about pages that are available on your website that are available for crawling.
Google says a little more about what a sitemap is:
"A sitemap is a file where you provide information about the pages, videos, and other files on your site, and the relationships between them. Search engines like Google read this file to crawl your site more efficiently. A sitemap tells Google which pages and files you think are important in your site, and also provides valuable information about these files. For example, when the page was last updated and any alternate language versions of the page.
You can use a sitemap to provide information about specific types of content on your pages, including video, image, and news content. For example:
A sitemap video entry can specify the video running time, rating, and age-appropriateness rating.
A sitemap image entry can include the location of the images included in a page.
A sitemap news entry can include the article title and publication date."
It's really important to have an up-to-date sitemap available in the EvoX admin screen - this ensures search engines are able to access the newest content on your store for indexing.
Generating your Sitemap
You can generate your sitemap in the EvoX admin screen by navigating to:
Store Settings > General > Search Engine Optimisation
Scroll right down to the Sitemap area and click on the blue 'Generate Sitemap' button:
You'll then see a message indicating the site map is being generated and to come back in a few minutes (so you can go and make yourself a cuppa ☕)
When you come back, you should see your site map has been generated as a .xml link (I've obscured a little bit of the URL in the below screenshot for security):
Viewing the information in the Sitemap
To view this sitemap, you can click on it but it will be displayed in a way that's difficult for humans to read - this is by design since the sitemap is primarily for bots to crawl.
To see your sitemap in a way that's legible, right click on the blue .xml link and select 'Save link as...', give it a name then save.
Now open a new Excel spreadsheet, click Open on the left:
Locate your saved XML link and open. In the first window that pop ups, make sure the 'As an XML table' is selected and click OK:
On the next window that pops up, click OK again:
The sitemap file is pretty chunky so you might find it'll take a few minutes to load. Give it some time and then you'll see the file loaded as a table:
Job done! :)
