The product finder is a great way to allow your customers to find products using selections that may not be attributes or values of those products.

Example:

Imagine that you wanted to create a finder that allowed you to find products for different parts of your office.

Example areas of the office

  • Desk

  • Copier room

  • Break room

  • Parking area

  • Bathroom/Toilets

Your selections might start something like the below.

Selection 1

Selection 2

Selection 3

Pens

πŸ‘ Important: As you can see from the example selections above. The attributes "best", "Good", "Cheap" are not attributes or values that would be held against products in the store. But they can be used to build a finder that can return a unique group of products.

Thus, you can build any finder using any selections that you think your customer will find helpful, without adding those attributes to the product themselves.

Create unique ways of finding products on your store. πŸš€

Step 1

Create a finder

First add a name that will be used as the title of the finder. Then select the dates that you want the finder to be available.

Selections

The selections are the titles of each of the dropdowns. You can select the type of dropdown based on your content and how many options maybe available. For example, if you have a lot of selections it might be better to allow the customers to search to find the values.

Content

This WYSIWYG (What You See Is What You Get) allows you to create content on the page to introduce your finder or add more helpful information.

Meta Information

Add customizable SEO Title, Keywords, or Descriptions to your finder page. In the Global settings you can add your generic variables to be used when you don't have finder specific meta information.

Layouts

The finders use the default finder layout but you can create a new layout and apply it to any individual finder.

Step 2: Adding Products

Now that the finder and the basic selections have been chosen, it's time to add your products and selection values.

There are two ways to add products.

  • Manually

  • Import

Manually adding products

This is handy if you only have a few products or you don't have your product set in a csv or excel format.

Add products via an Import

Values tab

The values tab allows you to globally edit existing values that were added against your products.

πŸ‘ Important: Remember that the values are held only once and then used wherever needed. Thus, editing a value will update it for every product that has that value held against it.

Example: As you can see from the image below "Desk" and "Paper" are only held once in the values tab. Thus, editing "Desk" will update it for all products that have this value.

Add Finders to other Layouts

You can add your finder to other layouts by using the finder widget and setting the finder that you would like to use. This will allow your users to start using the finder on that page and then they will be redirected to the finder page to see the product results.

FAQ

Does it work with catalogue container logic?

Yes, if a product isn't available for that customer it won't be shown on the storefront. This means you will want to make sure that the products are available to most customers, when you are designing it. Remember the products in the finder are your private set of products and won't automatically update when catalogs change.

Can I set it up to use existing product attributes?

Yes but the finder is really designed to be used with attributes that you wouldn't have on that product. See the example at the beginning of this article. Remember the products in the finder are your private set of products and won't automatically update when catalogs change.

Can I use the finder on multiple layouts like my search, category, or homepage layouts and have it redirect to my finder page?

Can I create a custom layout for my finder?

Yes, simply create a custom layout and add the finder widget to the layout.
