With the help of the fancy import feature in Evolution X, you can also import your own categories in bulk. Please ensure that you have familiarised yourself with our handy Import 101 article first.

To import custom categories, head over to the Categories module in your admin screen.

At this point, we need to make certain that the Category Vertical is activated. An article on how to set up your categories can be found here.

Click on Import Categories.

You will then be presented with a window prompting you to upload your file. Please download the template by clicking the "Download Template" button.

A .csv file will be downloaded on your device.

Open this file and you will be presented with a spreadsheet, where you will need to fill in the details of your categories. The following information will be required:

Category ID: If you are importing your main category for the first time, you will not need to fill this column.

Parent Category ID: This will be required.

  • If you want to import a Custom Category into an own Category, please fill that space with 1000000.
  • If you want to import a Custom Category into the existing Fusion ones, this number will change to 1000001.

Name : Name of your category

Description : A description of your category

Image path : The image location in your database.

Image name : The name of the image (needs to be identical with your file name for the image)

Meta Title, Description, Keywords : SEO options for your category.

From date : The date from which the category is valid. (Please ensure the correct date formatting is followed)

To date : The date the category is valid till. (Please ensure that the correct date formatting is followed)

Active : Set to Y if category is active.

Delete Record : N for importing for the first time. If you want to delete a category, set this to Y.

We will now create a category called "School Uniform" amongst the Fusion Categories.

As you can see, we are adding a parent category called School Uniform and filling in the required information.  I am inserting the Parent Category ID 1000001 to import this among the Fusion categories.

After you are done completing this information, save your file.

Now go back to Categories, click on Import Categories, Click on "Choose file" and select your template file with completed information. Once the file is selected, click Import

Your category is now created.

Now, what if I wanted to add subcategories to the School Uniform category?

You will notice a category ID next to the category name - #1003074.

This ID can now be applied to the Parent Category ID column in our import file to create subcategories.

Repeat the same process to import subcategories under the parent category. Once successful, your categories should look like the following:

An import among Own Categories on the other hand would look like the following:

That's it - Job Done!  👨‍🎓👩‍🎓
