Managing Product Categories When Controlled by DDS

Learn why categories may appear locked and how to update them through DDS to ensure accurate product categorization

If categories are managed through DDS (Data Distribution System), please note that locked or default categories cannot be removed from the “Additional Categories” tab. The default category must instead be updated on the main product screen, as DDS serves as the source of truth for product categories. To resolve this issue, the default category should be updated directly within DDS. Once that update is made, the incorrect or locked category will automatically be removed from the product. This process applies to any product where the category appears locked or cannot be unchecked within the storefront overlay or the Additional Categories tab.
